Great Quote: The Churches Duty…

April 24, 2008

Here is Toronto there is a large Anglican church called St. Paul’s right downtown (it actually was the site of a Jesus Movement revival in the 70’s called the Catacombs where over 2000 young adults would gather on a Thursday night) – I’m actually excited about going and praying there some time (they are open for people to just come and pray).

Anyways, I was on their site and found this quote from their Rector (pastor/priest) Dr. Henry Cody from 1913 at the opening of one of their buildings:

“The Church’s duty is to reach out and dig down – the two go together. No institution will prosper which does not believe in itself, its mission, its need, its power of God. The Church of God will never advance if her policy is merely to keep alive. Defensive tactics win no battles. The Church that holds her own is in peril of waning. The strength of the Church is to leave the fortress and march boldly to fresh forms of enterprise for God the Omnipotent is with us. He is our partner. Therefore we cannot fail.”
