“Yes We Can” – The Power to Connect

February 20, 2008

I won’t actually be voting but I’ve been quite intrigued by the current political race in the U.S.A. One area that really interests me is how candidates are using technology to advance their message. There are so many untapped ways to use technology, particularly the Internet if we think creatively.

For example, I read last week about a popular artist Will-I-Am (Black Eyed Peas) who wanted to support Barack Obama. He got the idea for a music video based on one of his speeches on a Thursday, called some friends, did the shoot, had it up by the following Monday and now a couple weeks later it has almost 5 million views!

Talk about the power to connect!

I think this is an excellent example of all the untapped opportunities the internet provides – particularly for ministry. Just a couple ideas to think about:

  • The Internet can be used to connect people into a ‘church’ - they could watch services, give, be involved in discipleship and training classes, be involved in a small group all online (I personally still prefer ‘real life’ but what about all the people who may be isolated from a good church).
  • Rather than spending millions of dollars on air time for one television program, ministries can have one program that they strategically place with the idea of connecting people back to a streaming website that could have any number of styles of programs (talk show, sit-coms…)
  • What better way to show ‘reality’ miracles/signs/wonders than through online video?
  • The list could go on and on.

I believe that the anointing of God carries a creativity with it and if His people will listen then He will will ‘download’ all kinds of original ideas.
