Ministry Potential: Apple TV
January 29, 2008Recently on the LifeChurch.tv blog some of the potential of the new(er) Apple TV technology was discussed. Basically, to understand what Mac is doing with Apple TV: think iTunes except with television content. You can sign up for feeds/channels and have them downloaded to your Apple TV when they are released – and then watch them on your television.
“What’s the ministry potential?, you might ask? Here are a couple examples:
-
Imagine being able to download content to each small group leader before their lead their group – visuals, messages, examples…
-
How about downloading Sunday’s message directly to each church members home?
-
How about ministering to people who are shut it or in an area where it is hard to get to a church?
-
Imagine being able to send video lessons, training classes etc. literally across the globe.
-
Churches that do video multi-site (as long as they are not simutaneous) will have an easy distribution ‘highway’
-
Television ministries can get people to sign up and deliver extra content directly to them
-
The list goes on and on…
We’re not there yet but I think it is important that we get ‘ahead of the game’ and position ourselves to use every outlet possible to accomplish the mission God has given us.

Hey Brendon,
I work in the IPTV industry for the company that powers the Sky Angel set-top box service. What do you think of the idea of multiple churches (or one large church) offering their own broadcast network via a set-top box?
